All communications which require electric power to operate will be severely disrupted or not available.

• cell phones
• internet
• telephone company central offices

Even Electric Power Companies which increasing rely on the internet for critical command and control of the transmission grid, local distribution networks and power generation will go black. They will not be able to monitor or control their system which will make power restoration even after the damaged transmission grid critical infrastructure  has been repaired or replaced more difficult and time consuming.

To minimize the disruption to restoring the electric power system the Electric Utilities should use the fiber optic communication cables that are or can be added to every electric transmission line either overhead or buried. The command and control systems using exclusively  optical cables should be completely separated from the internet.
